Our services include the following:

Appointments:

We prefer a health professional to make the appointment on the patient's behalf as an accurate scan report is required to make the booking. (Please note: An appointment is not an assurance that your patient will be accepted for T.O.P. Where possible, it is preferable that she has been made aware of all of her options before arriving at the clinic.

Office hours: 9:00 am until 5:00 pm Monday to Friday

Telephone: (09) 638 6040/1

Please inform your patient that the surgical procedure takes all day. The morning consists of assessing, followed by the procedure early afternoon. Discharge from our care is late afternoon. The medical procedure requires two separate visits 48 hours apart.

Confirmation of appointments:

It is very helpful if your patient confirms her appointment 24 hours prior to her appointment date. This allows us to give the opportunity of an unwanted appointment to waiting patients.

Information required by the clinic:

N.B. Blood group and rhesus status are essential to indicate need for anti D immunoglobulin.

AMAC DIAGNOSTIC/MEDLAB NUMBER: 012681

It is important that all results are available on the morning of the appointment for First Certifying Consulting to take place. It is very helpful if we are in receipt of them the day prior to the appointment.

Patient information brochures:

Please supply the brochure to patients. The better the patients are informed, the less stressful their day. If you require more please call us and we will post them. The information can also be downloaded from this website.

Support people:

It is useful if a partner or friend can accompany the patient on the day of appointment in order to provide support and transportation. We do not allow children and babies to be brought to the clinic, as the long day makes the best-behaved children bored and noisy. It is impossible to provide a calm restful environment that mothers and other women around them need, with crying babies and children present.

Procedure:

Select either surgical procedure or medical procedure.

Aftercare

Most women recover soon after their abortion, but it is advisable to have a few days rest and quiet. Emotional reactions vary from woman to woman; some feel well and relieved whilst others may feel sad or unhappy. These emotions can be a result of changing hormone levels and /or a natural part of the grieving process. Generally these feelings pass quickly and emotions return to normal soon after. It is especially helpful if the patient has support from a close friend or partner during this time. Patients are instructed to visit their doctor for a check up two weeks after the abortion. For specific information on post-abortion care, click on either medical abortion aftercare or surgical abortion aftercare. You can also download a copy of the aftercare brochure (134K pdf) for surgical abortion.
